Transplant Links is solely dependant on charitable donations and volunteers to support its work.

From 'first steps' to 'self-sufficiency'.

TLC visits countries, which through extensive research and interaction with kidney doctors worldwide, have been identified as having the medical and political infrastructure to support and sustain a transplant programme.

The first 'feasibility visit' is carried out by two to three volunteer transplant doctors who assess the possibility of starting a transplant programme in collaboration with local doctors, healthcare workers and managers.

If feasible, the first 'implementation visit' is then arranged with a full team of surgeons, nephrologists and supporting clinicians undertaking the first transplants and teaching the skills.

Initially, only a few patients will have the transplants, but over time, as the local skills develop, many more will benefit.

After the first implementation visit, further visits will be planned to provide continued training and support, until the unit can sustain itself with relatively little support.
